Measurement Guide for Pet Collars
IMPORTANT: Please don’t guess your pet’s measurements! A soft flexible measuring tape is the recommended option.
Pet Collars include beadable, crochet, martingale, and all collars handmade by Lilly Faire.
With your pet standing, use a soft, flexible measuring tape to measure the middle of your pet’s neck—this is where the collar is designed to sit most comfortably.
Our collars are NOT meant to slip over your pet’s head, so please do not attempt to force the collar on. For example, when buying the beadable collar, they function similarly to a buckle-style collar and open using an O-ring clasp. Be sure to review the provided video on our site for instructions on how to properly open and close the clasp.
The measurement should be snug but not tight. We highly recommend leaving a little extra room for comfort. The collar should rest on the upper to middle portion of the neck, not at the lower base near the shoulders.
⚠️ Important Measuring Notes:
- If you are using a retractable body measuring tape (with a push-button housing), it must be wrapped correctly around your pet’s neck and inserted back into itself for an accurate, hands-free measurement.
- Do not use it like a standard soft tape—these typically start at 2 inches due to the housing and can result in incorrect sizing.
- Please avoid using hard measuring tapes or rulers, as they will not provide an accurate measurement.
🛡️ When in doubt, always size up for your pet’s comfort and safety. Feel free to contact Lilly Faire if you have any additional questions.
Breed Reference Disclaimer for Dogs
All pets are unique, even within the same breed. Please do not guess your pet’s size. For example, a Shepherd may weigh anywhere from 60 to over 100 pounds, which can result in a wide range of collar sizes. Always measure your pet for the most accurate fit.
⚠️ Breed size charts are for reference only. Please measure your pet before ordering.

Cat Measurement Guidelines

Please follow the instructions located above in the previous sections for measuring your kitty furbaby.
For your cat's safety, we strongly recommend using a breakaway (quick-release) collar. These collars are designed to snap open if they become caught on a branch, fence, furniture, or other object, helping to prevent injury or strangulation.
When fitting your cat's collar, make sure you can comfortably slip two fingers between the collar and your cat's neck. A properly fitted collar should be secure enough to stay in place while still allowing your cat to move comfortably.
Always check your cat's collar regularly for proper fit, especially for growing kittens or cats whose weight may fluctuate.
